The Glory Be

A short doxology of praise to the Holy Trinity.

4 min Practice

Begin with the prayer

The Glory Be is short, but it is not filler. It is praise of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, the Trinity into whose life Christians are baptised.

It places the present moment inside forever: as it was, is now, and ever shall be.

A radiant Trinity-inspired prayer image with a central golden cross.

Prayer text

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,

as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

How to pray with this guide

  • What does this prayer teach? The Glory Be is a short prayer of praise to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • How can I pray it? Pray it as praise, not as a filler between longer prayers.
  • What can I try this week? Use the Glory Be after one ordinary task and offer that moment to God.

Why Catholics pray Glory Be

The Glory Be turns attention back to the Trinity when prayer has become busy, anxious, or self-focused. In one short doxology, praise becomes the frame around time: now, always, and forever.

What the prayer teaches

Catholic prayer is Trinitarian. We do not pray to a vague spiritual power. We glorify the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, one God in three divine Persons.

When to pray it

The Glory Be is prayed in the Rosary, after psalms in the Liturgy of the Hours, and whenever a short act of praise is needed. It can end a moment of gratitude, repentance, or wonder.

Slow it down

Try praying it with a small bow of the head at the name of the Trinity. Let the final words stretch your imagination toward eternity.

Open the Scripture

Let the Scripture reference tune the prayer. Notice one word or scene that changes how you speak to God.

Catechism to consult

The Catechism reference helps show where this prayer sits inside Catholic life, worship, doctrine, and spiritual formation.

Try it this week

Pray the Glory Be slowly after one ordinary task today and let the task become praise.
